  1. a bad event, usually death, destruction, or complete failure, that will happen in the future and cannot be avoided 厄运;劫数

    He predicted doom for any country that did not act immediately. 他预言没有立即采取行动的国家注定难逃厄运。

    impending doom (=likely to happen soon) 即将降临的厄运 :

    A sense of impending doom hung over the meeting. 一种厄运即将降临的不祥之感笼罩着整个会议。

    meet your doom (=die in an unpleasant way) 丧生;死亡 :

    the famous castle in Denmark where Hamlet met his doom 哈姆雷特在其中丧生的那座位于丹麦的著名城堡
