might
modal verb /maɪt/
Might is usually followed by an infinitive without ‘to': might 通常后接不带to 的不定式: I might change my mind. Sometimes might is used without a following infinitive: 有时might后面不接不定式: I don't think we'll need any more help, but we might.
Might does not change its form, so the third person singular form does not end in ‘-s': might没有词形变化,所以第三人称单数不以-s结尾: She might be late.
Questions and negatives are formed without ‘do': 构成疑问句和否定句时不用do: Might I make a suggestion? Your plan might not work. The negative short form mightn't can also be used.
Might has no participles and no infinitive form. might没有分词和不定式形式。
There is no past tense but might have, followed by a past participle, is used for talking about past possibilities: might没有过去时态,但might have后接过去分词时可用于谈论过去的可能性: The explosion might have been caused by a gas leak.
When indirect speech is introduced by a verb in the past tense, might can be used as the past tense of may: 当动词的过去时引导间接引语时,might 可以用作may 的过去时: She said that she might go and stay with her mother.
There is no future tense, but might is used for talking about future possibilities: might没有将来时态,但可用于谈论将来的可能性: It might rain tomorrow.
